Music Therapy

For mental, emotional and physical well-being

There are two types of music therapy: One is listening to music that has healing properties (see Alan Roubik's Music For Your Health Series page), and the other involves singing or playing an instrument.

Learning to play the piano is therapeutic in many ways for children and adults alike, providing an emotional outlet, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, and strengthening cognitive and spacial development, problem-solving, coordination, self-expression, memory and much more.

These benefits also extend to children with autism, ADHD and other special needs students.  Consequently, Alan has experience working with special needs students, please reach out to him for a free consultation.

Alan Roubik's story

A twist of fate that led to a career in music

Alan injured the ulnar nerve in his right arm at the age of 16, which made it nearly impossible for him to continue playing the piano at a time when he was winning competitions and talent shows.

Atrophy set in immediately after the incident, generating intense pain and rendering Alan's hand nearly unusable. It was so bad that he had to alter the way he wrote, typed or ate using eating utensils.

After arduous tests and numerous consultations with specialists, Alan was told that the best therapy would be to continue playing the piano.  And that's exactly what he did, despite the intense physical and emotional pains.  Alan relearned playing the piano, focusing on composing songs that met his physical potential.  And in time, his nerve began to heal and the strength in his hand gradually increased, all the while creating a unique style of his own.

As fate would have it, he became a trailblazer in the world of music therapy.
